The Temple of the Way of Light is located approximately two hours' journey from Iquitos. The exact time can vary, depending on the time of the year and level of the rivers. We provide transport by boat up the Rio Nanay from Iquitos and the journey lasts approximately 90 minutes: 10 minutes to the port by bus from Iquitos, 40 minutes on our boat then a 40 minute walk into the rainforest. Our helpers will assist you with your luggage during this part of the trip.
The temple is situated in the midst of pristine jungle, away from any unwanted noise (rivers, roads, villages, etc) in order to be surrounded simply by the jungle in isolation, peace and solitude. As a result, we can ensure that all the healing work carried out at the Temple is undisturbed by external distractions, and takes place within the most authentic and natural setting possible. The Temple and all our other buildings are built on a hill inside the jungle, so you really feel surrounded by the richness of the most diverse ecosystem on Earth. We have a vantage point on a nearby hillside, from where you can see the jungle unfold in front of you for countless miles.
We have a large main circular Temple, in which, in the evening, the Ayahuasca ceremonies take place. During the daytime, the Temple is available for visitors to relax in, and has plenty of hammocks and deck chairs to rest in, while taking in the sounds of the jungle all around you. It is also completely protected by mosquito netting! There is a building adjacent to the Temple with three showers, wash basins and toilets, located conveniently for use during ceremonies. A covered walkway takes you from the Temple to this area.
Accommodation is currently arranged over six tambos [sleeping huts]; five sleep one or two people and one sleeps up to 4 people. Each hut has a clean, good quality mattress, mosquito nets, tables and chairs, gas lamp, clothes hangers and a hammock – and nothing else! We we offer traditional accommodation, without gadgets: in fact there is no electricity (or internet, although it is possible to make mobile calls in an emergency) at the Temple. We hope you'll value the time away from all the distractions and unnatural energies of modern life.
We are in the process of building a further 6 tambos spread out across our land, each with private shower and toilet – some close to the Temple, some further into the jungle in order to provide complete isolation for those following more intensive dietas. We are focusing on providing every visitor with their own tambo to ensure you have the space you need for deep personal work and connection with Nature.
We will also soon be contructing a second smaller Temple dedicated to people carrying out dietas in order to separate the workshop Ceremonies and individual Ceremonies for dieteros.
Food is served in our dining hut, in the same building as the kitchen; we currently have seating for up to 15 people. We are enlarging this seating area, and in addition, building a living area with low seating and more hammocks to relax in.
We have also dammed a small river to provide a large bathing area where you can swim, cool down and wash. We alsocarry out the floral baths in this represa. We are now building a further 2 dams, which will be used to create fish farms to provide sustainable fresh fish for our guests.
The priority for us is to provide an authentic natural environment, free from electricity, noise and disturbance to ensure that all our visitors have the chane to experience traditional healing, deep in the Amazon rainforest. We are very proud of our Temple, and are passionate about working only with traditional materials and designs and: all the buildings have been constructed by people from local villages. We hope you will share our passion if your path brings you to visit us here at the Temple of the Way of Light.
